H. Marie Brovold, 97 years old and of Ettrick, WI died Friday, December 4, 2020 at Gundersen Health System, in LaCrosse, WI.
Marie was born March 10, 1923 to Anna (Gilbertson) & Fritjof (Fred) Skorstad on the family farm, Blair, WI. She attended the Lone Star country school and graduated from Blair High School.
On June 17, 1941 she married Arnold Brovold of Ettrick, WI. They shared 62 years of marriage before Arnold's death in 2003. To this union three daughters were born. Ann Marie, Linda, and Sharon. Linda died in infancy.
Marie was a life-long member of North Beaver Creek Lutheran Church, rural Ettrick. She taught Sunday School, served as a leader of the Hi-League Youth Group & for a time as Music Leader of "The Sons & Daughters", a youth choir of her church.
Marie loved to work with her hands - sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, rosemaling, and doing puzzles. She loved the outdoors, tending her lawn and garden. She also cultivated and detasseled corn. Always it seemed, she had a paint brush in her hand painting the many buildings of Brovold Homestead, which seemed an endless task. Her passion was to beautify the farm where she spent 72 years, before moving to Eden House, Galesville, almost 8 years ago.
She is survived by daughters, Ann Marie (Roland) Ekern of Ettrick, and Sharon Lebakken of LaCrosse. Also five
grandchildren, James, Roddy, & Jay (Janelle) Ekern all of Ettrick; and Sarah (Adam) Ellingson of LaCrosse, WI and Michael Lebakken of Brooklyn, NY. She is also survived by 8 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren, 11 nieces & nephews, and 1 sister-in-law, Hilda Brovold of Miami, FL and 1 brother-in-law Richard Dusenbery of Alma, WI.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arnold, daughter Linda and a great grandson, Bradley Ekern, and her brother, John Skorstad. She was also preceded in death by 4 sister-in-laws & 3 brother-in laws; Jeanne Skorstad, Lillian (Brovold) & Russell Crabtree; Mary Ann (Brovold) Dusenbery; Glenn Brovold, and Archie & Charlene Brovold. A niece Jeanne (Crabtree) Zielke and two nephews, Steve & Mark Brovold.
